Haili volleyball sign-ups ongoing
It’s getting to be that time of year again.
The 49th annual Haili Girls Tournament which will be held Feb. 17-22 with junior and open volleyball division for males and females.
There is no application, and those needing more information may contact Lyndell Lindsey at 896-3358 or lyndy lindsey@gmail.com.
There is an entry fee and there will be a concession. Deadline for entry will be Feb. 8.
• The 63rd annual Haili Volleyball Tournament which will be held at various gyms in Hilo, including Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, from March 16-21. There will be an entry fee for each team in the junior boys and girls and men’s and women’s B, A, AA and masters Divisions. There will also be concessions at each site.

This tournament will be using Advanced Event Systems (AES) as their tournament scheduler, so teams should register early and know that the deadline is a firm.
BIIF seeks track officials
The BIIF is looking for volunteer officials for the upcoming season, which starts in March.
A free hands-on officials’ training workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Waiakea High School track. In attendance will be three experienced officials from Oahu to train anyone willing to learn the basics and help with the track and field season.
Whether you are a parent who would like to learn more about the rules and officiating, a coach or assistant coach who works with our youth, or an official, this workshop will be helpful for all.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Hilo Little League umpire training
Umpire training for Hilo Little League volunteer umpires, managers, coaches, parents and youth ages 16 or older will be conducted from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Waiakea Uka Upper Baseball Field.
For those who have registered for Hilo Little League this season, a player assessment will follow the umpire training. Registrants for the minor division will begin at 1 p.m., followed by major and 50-70 divisions.
Meanwhile, a junior umpire program is being planned, should there be any youth interested in becoming umpires.
For adult and youth umpires, training will include Little League basic field mechanics and positioning, along with cage work for calling balls and strikes.
